There is a sense of comfort in achieving financial security, but at Meta, we maintain that the real aim of financial planning is to reach a position where finances no longer control your decisions.
We believe it is our responsibility to probe and challenge our clients on the art of their possible. Little is more rewarding than supporting this journey and watching the outcome.
Read on to see how we have brought this to life with real clients.
When she was in her early forties, our client was referred to us with a slightly unusual problem. As an executive working in a private equity firm she thought her career was on track until a change of management convinced her otherwise. With the feeling now that she was constantly being second guessed and needed to justify her every decision she came to Meta with the vital question: ‘Can I stop work now, or will I need to get another job?’
As with all our clients, we took her through the Meta process – and most importantly we discovered what her lifestyle goals were and understood her financial position. Through our modelling and analysis, we formed the opinion that it was likely that her goals and aspirations could be met without her having to work again.
We continually review and assess her situation –meaning she has been able to follow her goals for the last six years, and continues to do so, confident in our position of knowledge over her portfolio.
As an ultra-high-net-worth individual, this client worked in private equity and had a good handle on his finances, but not his life goals, until we went through the Meta process with him and his wife.
During the mapping meeting he told us he wanted to leave his highly stressful job in the City by 2010 to spend more time with his wife and family. Using our modelling and analysis we were able to enhance his understanding of how achievable this goal was.
He’s now sitting on the board of a major European bank, having left his high-stress role for one that gives him a much better work-life balance away from the City.
